13 hour day

It's friday night and I had a long day today. I work in an animal hospital & we had several emergencies.

So I will relinquish my soap box for this evening & give a couple of links to explore.

What'cha smokin?

Let's move to a subject that affects every single family in America---the leading source of PREVENTABLE illness & death in the United States---cigarette smoking.

Any drug & alcohol class in college will tell you that's 430,000 deaths per year.

Everything we purchase, as consumers, in this country, that we ingest, has to have the ingredients listed on the packaging.

EXCEPT CIGARETTES. Read this. We all know cigarettes are harmful, but to not list what is really in them, is criminal.

Besides nicotine, which we know is the addictive component in cigarettes, there is tar, the yellow-brown sticky mass of cancer-producing hydrocarbons that has been linked to cause lung cancer.

There are also other tobacco additives & artificial tobacco substitutes that are sometimes added. Alone, these products may not be harmful, but when burned, create carcinogens(cancer-causing elements).

These items can include: cloves, sugar, licorice, freshness-preserving chemicals know as glycols, & powdered cocoa---among others.

Smokers may not be all that jazzed about these findings, but don't you find it ironic that products to help you STOP smoking are regulated, but the cigarettes are NOT? There are big corporations & tobacco lobbyists to thank for that one, kids.
While the federal government supports antismoking programs & research, it also
subsidizes tobacco growers
.

Talk about playing both sides of the fence.

Put that in your pipe & smoke it!

No More Sheeple

In order to get through fear, one must educate herself.

In order to educate oneself, I need to spend the time to do it. To make it important.
Following the herd certainly can be easier, at times, but what am I giving up? It could be my freedoms, my integrity, my CONCIOUSNESS. I would like to keep those things please.

Follow the news.........but which news? Who has the "right" story? Who are responsible journalists?
This is the fun part.....YOU get to decide. We have choices; as of March 29, 2006 we still do. Some news is very available; on the screen at all times, same talking points, not much back & forth debate, seems very one-sided.

Dig deeper.

Seek out alternative news. Discard one-sided chit-chat. Use your COMMON SENSE! Seek out others who are not afraid to tell the story of what is happening.

In These Timesis an independent newsmagazine. They do a great job weeding through mainstream media gobbledegook.

Education is key to tightening the girdle of fear. But, it may just bring out more anger when you find out what's REALLY going on.

There is a bumper sticker that says: "If You're Not Outraged, You're Not Paying Attention"

More tomorrow.

Keeping It Real

I'm going to forego the FEAR discussion for now because it's late, it's been a long day and I'm tired.

Having said that, it's important to point out that my life is pretty sweet compared to those in Iraq-soldier & civilian.
Watch This

Spend some time atPeace Takes Courage.

I'll revisit the FEAR issue within the next few days.

.....And the band plays the "Song of Fear"

Fear. It's not like people aren't speaking up---look atMichael Moore ; he stood at the Oscars & called Bush a "fictitious President" and a draft dodger. He received cheers & boos. Cindy Sheehan has been a fire-cracker speaking out about the administration & George Bush claiming her son died for a "noble cause". As an invited guest to the State of the Union Address, she was arrested.Link Even musicians like the Dixie Chicks have been very vocal--they received alot of flack from some of their fans, but that has not forced them to desert their passion for the 1st Amendment.Read about their new song here

What keeps others from speaking about what is going on?

Are we afraid? Uncomfortable about angering others? Scared we might get arrested? Concerned someone might take a belt at us?

I know I make others uncomfortable when I talk about Bush lying, the administration forsaking our fellow Americans in New Orleans, racism, Cheney's link to Halliburton & Iraq, all the Bin Laden's the Bush lot is friendly with, and even when I point out the Democrats lack of......well.....um.....vim in dealing with the Republican tenacity. I could continue......but you get the picture. It's SUPPOSED to make you feel uncomfortable!!! It's your body's way of telling you something is wrong & you need to do something about it.
I was told by someone the other day that I shouldn't be so judgemental when pointing out that we are STILL clearing bodies from New Orleans 6 months after the storm. I reminded this person that pointing out a FACT was not judgemental--it's stating what is going on. She didn't get it. Very frustrating.

So, what exactly is keeping the average joe from speaking out? Does joe even care? Is he working so hard at 40+ hours at his min. wage job he doesn't have time? Any wisdom?

I'll do some more research myself--until tomorrow.

Peace,
Deanna :)

Freeway Blogger

Yesterday I abandoned the idea of placing an "IMPEACH BUSH" sign at my workplace.
There are many of our fellow countrymen & women who are doing just that.
Check out the link--except they are posting on highway overpasses & the like.
FREEWAYBLOGGER.com - Free Speech: Use It or Lose It

There are Americans who understand how critical issues are in the White House girth. Speaking up & out IS patriotic!
It IS expected of us as citizens. What keeps people from speaking the facts?

FEAR FEAR FEAR FEAR

What are we so afraid of? This will be a good discussion for tomorrow.

I think I know a great spot in town here for my sign.

Until Monday,

Deanna :)

A New Blog

I decided to begin a blog.

A place for free speech. A spot to discuss issues. A location to inform, & be informed.

I enjoy discussing politics and researching what is happening in our world, but have found that some feel just a tad uncomfortable when I begin speaking of these subjects. Even my boss at work has put the brakes on these discussions-"No Politics At Work". Maybe an "Impeach Bush" sign posted to the front of our building is just what's needed. I wonder if she'd figure out I was behind it? hmmm

Well, she certainly can't stop me here. As of yet.

One of my favorite websites is:BushFlash.com
If you have not visited this site, I invite you to do so soon. It contains info on current Bushy, Vice-shooter, & Rummy goings-on. And the animations range from hilarious to thought-provoking, to down-right painful.
More tomorrow.

Peace,
Deanna
